"A Mothers Love is a Blessing". Evelyn Jess was born Jessica Evelyn Bemister. She was named after her Grandmother Evelyn, who passed when Jess was just 7 years old. Years later when thinking of a stage name, Jess chose to take her Grandmother's name first as a tribute to her legacy. Now each time the name appears in lights it will be a shining reminder of her loving memory and joyous spirit. Grandmother Evelyn appreciated Mother's Day. It was always her favorite time of year mainly because her birthday fell in the same week. Therefore no other day seemed more fitting for a celebration than that of the wonderful woman's birthday - May 13th. This passed Mother's Day Weekend - Evelyn Jess certainly did her grandmother proud and lived up to her name with her debut album release concert. Emerging singer/songwriter shares a message of hope and self love through new single “I Will Be There.”  When the COVID-19 pandemic started, Baraka found himself alone. Trapped inside his apartment in a foreign country, thousands of miles away from his family in Tanzania. The resulting stress and isolation sent him into a mental health spiral; there were days when he hardly left his room.  Through this darkness, he had that eureka moment that inspired the song “I Will Be There.” As a songwriter who primarily writes about relationships and other people, there was something so fulfilling for Baraka to write a song for himself. “I Will Be There” is an anthem of self love and a reminder that we all need to take the time to take care of ourselves and be there for ourselves. “You can’t lie, I know you’ve had one too!” In her debut single “03”, St. John’s, NL songwriter Mackenzie Critch shares her perspective on a universal, taboo part of the teenage experience: Fake IDs.  The song is clever, light, and comedic and is meant to highlight the “coming-of-age” years from 17-20 where youth have to balance new responsibilities and expectations. It’s about the stories and experiences we hide from our parents, the desire to become independent, and trying to fit into the world as a young person. “03” is the first-of-two singles that Mackenzie has recorded as part of the 2022 MusicNL NewFound Talent prize package.
